The head of the hawkish opposition Yisrael Beytenu party expresses support for US President Donald Trump’s plan for ending the war in Gaza.

“Every initiative that brings all the hostages home must be welcomed,” tweets Avigdor Liberman on X, citing a verse from the biblical book of Jeremiah stating that “your children shall return to their borders.”

Multiple opposition politicians, including Yair Lapid and Yair Golan, have expressed support for the plan, although former prime minister Naftali Bennett has yet to weigh in. Bennett, a right-wing party leader who had helmed a broad coalition including left-wing and Arab parties, has become more vocal in recent weeks as he plots his political comeback.

While some members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet have come out in support of the plan, many others have remained silent, including the premier’s allies on the far right who have opposed past proposals.
