US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he expects further news on the emerging US-Iran deal later today, and stresses that the main goal of an agreement is to prevent Iran from ever possessing a nuclear weapon.

“I believe there may be more news coming out a bit later today on [a deal with Iran], and I’ll leave it to [US President Donald Trump] to make further announcements on it,” Rubio tells reporters while on a diplomatic visit to India.

“Significant progress but not final progress” has been made on the deal, he adds, saying, “The ultimate goal is that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon…they will never possess a nuclear weapon – certainly not as long as Donald Trump is president.”
