Sa’ar: Israel to open embassy in Fiji next year

Three months after Fiji opened an embassy in Jerusalem, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announces that Israel will open an embassy in the island nation’s capital Suva in 2026.
In a post on X, Sa’ar says he informed Fijian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sitiveni Rabuka of the decision this morning, adding that the new embassy will “tighten the relations between the two countries and help cultivate our longstanding friendship and strengthen our cooperation in the fields of development, economic, security and more.”
He praises Fiji’s support for Israel at the UN and adds, “Israel’s embassy in Fiji will strengthen Israel’s presence in the entire Pacific region, which is friendly to Israel, and will deepen our ties with other Pacific island nations.”

Fiji was one of a dozen countries to abstain from the September UN vote that overwhelmingly endorsed the creation of a Palestinian state, which Israel strongly opposes.
Israel previously had an embassy in Fiji, but it was closed in the 1990s due to budget cuts.
