Security officials said to warn of rise in attempts to deploy explosive drones within Israel

Israel’s defense establishment has identified a significant increase in attempts by terror groups to launch explosive drones – including fiber-optic drones – within Israel toward targets across the country, Channel 12 reports.

According to the report, officials warned during recent closed-door discussions that there is currently no effective operational solution to the emerging threat in the near term.

Defense Minister Israel Katz recently held an urgent meeting with senior defense officials on the subject, aimed at advancing “an immediate and comprehensive plan to provide an operational response to the drone threat,” according to a statement released by his office.

Fiber-optic drones, which are guided via a cable and therefore immune to electronic jamming, have posed a major challenge for the IDF during its operations in Lebanon, killing Israeli soldiers.

A security official cited by Channel 12 said that “buying a drone and attaching explosives to it is almost as easy as kicking a ball,” adding that “there is still a long way to go before we have an effective solution.”
