Transportation Ministry announces curbs on buses, trains

The Transportation Ministry announces changes and limitations in public transportation that will take effect tomorrow as part of the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.

Bus and train lines primarily transporting passengers to businesses, supermarkets and medical centers will operate normally, while lines to leisure venues, schools and universities will be canceled.

Payment directly to the drivers will be completely halted, with payment done only via the Rav Kav electronic card. Drivers and operators are instructed to ensure no bus or train is crowded and passengers are requested to keep a distance from the drivers and from one another.

The ministry says there has been a drop of about 50% in the number of passengers in recent days, and expects that to drop further.
