The High Court’s ruling obliging the government to draw up criminal and economic sanctions against Haredi draft dodgers “once again reminds the government that there is law in the country, and the government once again reminds us that it has no intention of respecting it,” says The Democrats chairman Yair Golan.
“Instead of drafting the ultra-Orthodox, they draft excuses, and instead of enforcement, they produce yet another workaround,” he posts on X, pledging, if elected to govern, to cut funding from yeshivas that encourage evasion and to transfer billions of shekels from Haredi causes to IDF reservists.
Draft evasion “must not be at our expense,” he declares.
