United Airlines set to resume nonstop service between NYC and TLV on September 8

United Airlines is preparing to resume nonstop flight services from New York to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on September 8, with flights operating out of Newark, New Jersey.

“United still plans to resume service between Newark and Tel Aviv on September 8 with two daily flights,” the US airline said Friday in an e-mailed statement.

United previously put the route on hold through September 7 after repeatedly suspending Israel operations following the closure of the country’s airspace to most commercial traffic on February 28 at the onset of the US-Israel war with Iran. Ben Gurion Airport has since been fully reopened with foreign airlines slowly resuming their flight services to Israel.

Last week, US rival American Airlines announced that it will not resume flights to and from Israel before March 27, 2027, while Delta’s New York and Atlanta routes to Tel Aviv are suspended through September 5.

The hiatus of US airlines amid the war with Iran has left travelers entirely dependent on Israeli airlines El Al and Arkia for nonstop flights between Tel Aviv and US destinations, with the former seeing its profits skyrocket as the lack of foreign competition has allowed local carriers to charge customers exorbitant sums.

The resumption of routes in early September means that US travelers will have more ways to get to Tel Aviv ahead of the Jewish holiday season, which begins with Rosh Hashana on the evening of September 11 and typically sees a large number of tourists in Israel.
