A doctor at Beersheba clinic mocked a soldier who said he “felt weak,” a day before the soldier was diagnosed with a brain infection, Israel Radio reported on Monday morning.
The soldier’s mother took her son to a clinic in the southern city after he complained of feeling weak. According to the mother, the doctor laughed at the young man and mockingly inquired, “Are you 80-years-old?” Her attempts “to convince the doctor” to inspect her son were in vain, and he “called the guard to kick us out,” she said.
The nurse took the soldier’s vitals, but made no attempt to look into anything beyond the basics, the mother described.
The soldier and his mother went to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba the morning after, where he was diagnosed with a brain infection and hospitalized for further treatment.
Following the report, the Army Spokesperson said the matter would be investigated by the medical clinic.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
