One person was killed and five others were injured, one of them seriously and three moderately, in a three-way car crash near Jerusalem.

The accident took place on Highway 60 — the “tunnel road” linking southern Jerusalem to the Etzion Bloc and the West Bank.

Police were investigating whether the crash was caused by a sofa falling off the roof of one vehicle, and a second car, trying to avoid the sofa, moving across the road and into the path of the third vehicle.

MDA personnel evacuated the injured to hospitals in the capital.

The highway was closed to traffic as a result of the accident.
