The soldier injured on Monday during a training exercise in the Golan Heights was sleeping behind a tank when it reversed, running over and severely injuring him.

The Golani Brigade soldier suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. As of Tuesday morning he remained in serious condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Initial investigations conducted by the IDF found that the tank crew did not discern the sleeping soldier before they went in reverse.

The incident occurred during a joint exercise of the 188th armored brigade and the Golani infantry brigade. Immediately after the accident the exercise was halted and military police investigators arrived at the scene.
