At least six prisoners and two wardens were injured Wednesday when a fire broke out at the maximum-security Rimonim Prison north of Tel Aviv.

Four prisoners were seriously injured.

They were transferred to the Meir hospital in Kfar Saba and Petah Tikva’s Beilinson medical center.

Initial investigation indicated that a prisoner had set a mattress on fire, causing the blaze.

The two wardens who put out the fire and evacuated the prisoners were lightly hurt.

The Prisons Authority reported that the entire prison wing had been evacuated and that the incident was being investigated.
