Turkish media report that an explosion on Istanbul’s popular pedestrian Istiklal Avenue has injured 11 people.

Footage shows ambulances, firetrucks and police at the scene. The cause of the explosion is not clear. Social media users said shops are shuttered and the avenue is closed down.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry says it is in touch with its envoys in Turkey to establish if there were any Israelis harmed in the incident.
