In response to a question about Avigdor Liberman’s comparison of Benjamin Netanyahu to Joseph Goebbels, Prime Minister Yair Lapid says, “I denounce what the minister of finance said, as I denounce any comparison between the Holocaust and anything. I am happy to see that the minister of finance took back what he said.”

Asked about Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s accusation in Germany last month that Israel carried out “50 holocausts” against Palestinians, Lapid calls the statements “disgraceful, disrespectful, and horrible, just plain horrible.”

Lapid stresses that this kind of speech also exists in Palestinian textbooks.

He also says he appreciates German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s eventual response to Abbas’s statement.
