Iran received a 15-point proposal from the US to reach a ceasefire in the war, two Pakistani officials say.
The Pakistani officials describe the proposal broadly as touching on sanctions relief, civilian nuclear cooperation, a rollback of Iran’s nuclear program, monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency, missile limits and access for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf.
The officials speak with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity as they aren’t authorized to release the details.
Pakistan is helping relay messages between the US and Iran and could host ceasefire talks in Islamabad as soon as this week, officials have said.
Iran has insisted it isn’t engaged in negotiations with the US. Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported today that Iran has made a ceasefire proposal that included demands for reparations for the US-Israeli bombing campaign, the closure of US military bases in the Persian Gulf and a halt to Israel’s attacks on Iran’s Lebanese proxy Hezbollah.
