Iranian authorities make ‘significant’ arrests over protests, police chief says

Iran has made significant arrests of key figures in the anti-regime protest movement that has swept the Islamic Republic over the last two weeks, the country’s national police chief says.

“Last night, significant arrests were made of the main elements in the riots, who, God willing, will be punished after going through legal procedures,” Ahmad-Reza Radan tells state TV, without giving details on the number or identities of those arrested.

More than 115 people have reportedly been killed in the protests.
