Police say they have arrested a man and intend to charge him in the killing of Yelena Greenberg, 27.

Her body was found in a field near the central Israeli city of Rehovot last month after she was stabbed to death.

Police ask the court to extend the custody of the suspect, identified as Jason Blaze, until the end of proceedings against him.

Police say he was arrested with bloodstained clothes and there was evidence he had bought several bottles of gasoline that were found at the scene and with which he apparently intended to burn the body.

He was arrested the day of the murder but only appeared in court today after he tried to kill himself before the arrest.

Police did not give a motive for the murder, but the victim’s family have said she rebuffed his romantic advances.
