Netanyahu ‘strongly condemns violent attack’ on Shas MK Yoav Ben-Tzur
In a statement, Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he “strongly condemn(s) the violent attack” on Shas MK Yoav Ben-Tzur “carried out in Jerusalem yesterday by a small, radical group of protesters.”
He adds, “Even when there are disagreements, there is absolutely no place for violence. Law-enforcement authorities must act firmly against any attempt to intimidate or harm elected officials.”
Ben-Tzur was assaulted by Haredi protesters for his part in advancing a bill to regulate the conscription for yeshiva students. While Shas is seeking to exempt most students from military service, some Haredi groups oppose any framework that would subject yeshiva students to the draft.
