NYPD keeps anti-Zionist protesters away from Queens synagogue

Anti-Zionist protesters gather near a New York City synagogue to protest against an event marketing real estate in Israel.

The protest, the first major anti-Zionist demonstration under Mayor Zohran Mamdani, had sparked alarms in the local community, but the NYPD keeps the demonstrators away from the synagogue entrance.

The protest is in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, an area home to a large Orthodox and Bukharian Jewish population.

The protesters are confined to a “pen,” inside a police barricade, about half a block away from the synagogue.

A group of Jewish counterprotesters is in a separate pen across the street.

There is a heavy police presence at the scene and the surrounding blocks, and the area is closed to traffic.

The scene is in contrast to a protest outside a synagogue in November, when the demonstrators were allowed next to the synagogue entrance, sparking an outcry from the Jewish community.

The protesters chant, “Death to the IDF,” “We don’t want no Zionists here,” “Zionism no more,” and, “We don’t want no settlers here.”

The Jewish crowd chants, “USA” and “Fuck Mamdani.”

There are around 100 demonstrators on each side.
