Opposition prevents coalition from limiting debate on Shabbat bill

Opposition chief whip Yoel Hasson says the opposition has succeeded in preventing the coalition from implementing limits on the plenary debate for the final votes on the so-called mini-markets bill.

Speaking at the Zionist Union faction meeting, Hasson says that the opposition will set “the parameters of the debate, the length and the time of the vote.”

The second and third votes on the bill, which seeks to give the interior minister the ability to shutter shops on Shabbat, will take place later today.

The coalition had initially sought to limit the debate to nine hours while the opposition wants 14 in total.

“We plan to use all the tools at our disposal,” Hasson says.
