Two youths arrested for attacking bus driver who told them to stop smoking

Police arrested two 15-year-olds this morning on suspicion they attacked a bus driver at a bus depot in the city of Elad.

Police say they received a report of the incident last night. The driver told the youths to refrain from smoking on the bus, and was met with curses from the pair, who also pelted his vehicle with rocks. It is unclear whether the driver sustained any injuries.

Officers at the Rosh Ha’ayin police station opened an investigation last night and detained the two alleged assailants, residents of Elad and Petah Tikva. They are suspected of having attacked other bus drivers in the area in the past, a police spokesman says.

The police are in the process of questioning the two and still weighing whether to bring them to a youth court to request an extension of their remand.
