Man, 58, found dead in Lod in suspected gangland killing

Victim known to police, who suspect he was killed in turf war over illicit drug trade in the city

The body of a man, 58, was found early Monday in the Pardes Snir neighborhood in the central Israeli city of Lod.

Paramedics from the Magen David Adom rescue service pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to reports from the scene, medics found signs on the body that the man had been beaten before his death.

Police launched a murder investigation.

According to initial reports, the man is known to police, and investigators suspect he may have been murdered in a gang turf war over the illicit drug trade in the city.
