A woman was killed by gunshots on Wednesday in the Negev community of Tel Sheva, police said.

Circumstances were unclear about the incident, although some reports indicated it could have been an “honor killing,” when women perceived to have dishonored their family are killed by their relatives.

The woman, 40, was taken to a local medical center, where she was pronounced dead.

Police officers arrived at the scene in the Bedouin town, where initial reports said a brawl had taken place during which the woman was hit by a stray bullet.

However, a neighbor cited by the Walla news site said nobody had heard a brawl and that it was likely a case of “honor killing.”

The woman has two brothers serving prison sentences for murdering their sister 12 years ago, the Ynet news site reported.
