Oscar nominee Jonah Hill’s next premiere: LA’s Israel Film Festival
The ‘Moneyball’ star will spend the night before his next movie opens celebrating Israeli cinema
Recent Oscar nominee and Brad Pitt pal Jonah Hill must be a fan of Israeli movies. (Check out the video posted here in which Hill tells David Letterman about Pitt’s pranks on the set.)
March 15 should be a busy night for the “Moneyball” star, whose next movie — which he co-wrote and stars in — opens the following day. But instead of a red-carpet premiere, the actor will be attending the Los Angeles opening of the Israel Film Festival, where he’ll accept the annual Achievement in Film Award.
Recognition is always nice, but given Hill’s string of recent nominations — for a Golden Globe and BAFTA, among others — he hardly needs the Israel Film Festival for applause.
The 28-year-old — whose real last name is Feldstein — may just be a nice Jewish boy; his date for the Oscars, after all, was his mom. (That said, there’s also no forgetting his mischievous side, displayed in movies like “Superbad” and this photo shoot for Heeb magazine.)
Other honorees at the Israel Film Festival will include the team behind “Homeland,” the US adaptation of an Israeli TV series that generated a rabid, famous fan base during its recently ended first season. (Despite its name, the festival also gives a prize for Achievement in Television.)
Serving as the festival’s honorary co-chairs are Ryan Kavanaugh, a producer of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and other movies, and Arnon Milchan.
Milchan, an alleged ex-intelligence operative for Israel, is also the producer of films including “Pretty Woman,” “LA Confidential” and “Fight Club.”
