229 new COVID cases diagnosed in Israel on Friday

The Health Ministry says 229 new cases of coronavirus were diagnosed in Israel yesterday.

In addition, 96 people have tested positive for the virus since midnight.

There are 1,147 active patients in the country, including 26 in serious condition.

The fast-spreading Delta variant that was first detected in India is believed to be responsible for 70% of the new cases in the country in recent weeks.
