The family of slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh alerted police to problems at her Jerusalem funeral and asked for help, Channel 12 reports.

A first-degree relative called police to say her coffin had been seized by extremists at the hospital against the family’s wishes. The family member asked for immediate assistance from the police, the report says.

The confrontation between police and funeral-goers sparked international condemnation after police beat pallbearers with batons.
