Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara says the government’s plan to lengthen soldiers’ mandatory military service to three years is unconstitutional if it doesn’t also draft Haredi yeshiva students, in a letter to the cabinet published by Hebrew media outlets.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant disagrees with the opinion, according to a quote reported by Israel Hayom.

“There is a gap between the position of the Defense Ministry and [that of] attorney general,” he is quoted as telling the cabinet. “I stand behind the position of the ministry and suggest that she review her opinion.”
