As rocket fire escalates, 92% of Gazans want truce

As rocket fire from Gaza escalates some 90 minutes after Hamas rejected the extension of the 72-hour truce, it’s worth noting that Hamas is not acting in accordance with the wishes of the vast majority of Gazans.

An overwhelming 92 percent of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip are in favor of a long-term ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and 72% hope their leaders will work to achieve a lasting peace agreement with the Jewish state, a new poll has found.

Asked who has won the fight thus far, a plurality (46%) said both sides had lost, 25% said Hamas had won, 14% said it was a draw and 8% said Israel had won.

Most (67%) said Israel, not Hamas, was responsible for the destruction in the Gaza Strip, and 68% said they would prefer the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip over the option of rearming the militant factions there.
