Chief rabbi, Jewish leader part of official UK delegation for Peres funeral

British Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and the head of the Board of Deputies of British Jews Jonathan Arkush are part of the official UK delegation for the funeral of Shimon Peres.

Arkush calls the move “a mark of significant recognition for our community.”

The delegation also includes Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Prince Charles. It is unlikely that Prime Minister Theresa May will be in attendance, as her first Conservative Party conference as leader begins on Sunday. Johnson, therefore, will be the highest-ranking member of the British government in the delegation.

Former prime ministers Tony Blair, David Cameron and Gordon Brown are also attending the ceremony on Mount Herzl.

There will be countless tributes to Shimon Peres over the coming days, but I fear that few, if any, will adequately…
