Former prime minister Naftali Bennett slams Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu for reportedly promising state funding to ultra-Orthodox schools that don’t teach secular subjects.
Netanyahu is said to have made the promise to ultra-Orthodox parties in a bid to get them to run in a united slate for the upcoming elections, strengthening his chances of returning to power.
Bennett says the move will condemn Haredi schoolchildren to a life of ignorance.
“Transferring vast amounts of funding to schools that refuse to teach English and mathematics will create an entire generation of youths without skills, work or income,” tweets Bennett, who is not running in the upcoming election.
“They have condemned them to ignorance,” Bennett says, warning of the implications for the state.
