Court cancels deportation of Filipino workers, their children

An appeals court nixes the planned deportation of two Filipino workers and their Israeli-born children.

The court in Tel Aviv faults the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) for not holding a hearing for the children or taking into consideration their well-being.

The judge instructs PIBA to reassess the cases in accordance with Justice Ministry regulations requiring a hearing be held for minors over 12 years old who face deportation, according to the Haaretz daily.

Gena Antigo, 13, and Ralph Harel, 10, were arrested last week along with their mothers before they were all released several days later on bail.
