Defense Minister: Ben-Eliezer made ‘huge contribution to the security of Israel’

Defense Minster Avigdor Liberman says Binyamin ‘Fuad’ Ben-Eliezer made a “huge contribution to the security of Israel.”

“The State of Israel and the Defense Ministry lowers its head over his passing,” he writes in a statement.

Ben-Eliezer was regarded as a fearless fighter who led Israeli troops in several campaigns, and later as the defense minister who steered the country during the restive years of the Second Intifada from 2001 to 2003, and engineering Operation Defensive Shield to crush Palestinian terrorism in the West Bank.

“Ben-Eliezer made a huge contribution to the security of the State but beyond all the grand titles, Fuad was always a good man in the fullest sense, with a smile and a friendly slap on the back,” Liberman adds.

“We will always remember him with respect and fondness.”
