Diplomat says Hamas wanted earlier to deescalate

A diplomat familiar with mediation attempts tells The Times of Israel that Hamas relayed earlier today that it was interested in deescalating tensions, but that it would respond if Israeli strikes continued.

The diplomat says that Israel has not responded to proposals aimed at ending the ongoing violence.
