Egypt urges new truce in Gaza

Egypt, currently mediating talks to end the conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip, calls for an extension of a ceasefire that expired this morning, with the foreign ministry in Cairo saying progress has been made in the negotiations.

Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group in the Gaza Strip have rejected another 72-hour truce, accusing Israel of stalling. Representatives of the Palestinian factions are meeting in Cairo again to reassess that position.
