Prosecutors indict a man from Haifa, accusing him of racist incitement and making death threats against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.
The defendant, a 44-year-old man named Yaakov Itach, ran a TikTok account called “Kahanism,” named after the right-wing extremist ideology, prosecutors write, adding that he used the username “kobikanizem,” posting videos inciting against Arabs as well as the attorney general.
He regularly shared content about Meir Kahane, the late extremist rabbi and former MK who called for all Arabs to be expelled from the country, according to the indictment.
In one of his videos, the indictment says, the defendant is heard speaking over a picture of Baharav-Miara, saying that she will end up like former military advocate general Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the central suspect in the Sde Teiman leak affair.
Tomer-Yerushalmi, who confessed to the leak and resigned from her post, was recently hospitalized after overdosing on medication in a suspected suicide attempt.
“Did you see what happened to the military advocate general? Understand that we will make sure that you kill yourself. You’ll end up in a coffin,” he says in the clip, per the charges. “Legally or illegally, you will reach the grave.”
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
