The foreign ministers of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan issue a rare joint statement condemning Israel’s “aggression” against Lebanon, warning that it is “pushing the region towards all-out war.”
The ministers say that stopping the “dangerous escalation under way in the region… begins by halting Israel’s aggression in Gaza,” in a statement issued after a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the terror group saying it is doing so in support of Palestinians in Gaza amid the war sparked by the Hamas onslaught on southern Israel.
The fighting has intensified in recent days as Israel takes military action with the aim of enabling the 60,000 Israelis who have been evacuated from northern Israel for almost a year to return to their homes.
Hezbollah has said it will stop firing only once the war in Gaza ends, though many Israelis fear the north will remain under threat as long as the Iran-backed terror group’s forces are able to operate along the border.
