In mild statement, Morocco calls for ‘restoring calm’ in Gaza

Morocco issues a noticeably mild statement calling for an end to the fighting in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

“Morocco… calls for avoiding further escalation and restoring calm so that the situation does not degenerate, thus sparing the region from further tensions that jeopardize the chances for peace,” the kingdom’s foreign ministry says.

Rabat, which reestablished diplomatic ties with Jerusalem in 2020, also declares its “constant positions supporting the rights of the Palestinian people” while stressing that “the lasting solution to the conflict between the two parties” is the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
