National security adviser confirms ceasefire, says Israel will ‘defend itself’ if attacks continue

National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi confirms that Israel has agreed to an Egyptian-proposed ceasefire, but warns that the military will respond to any further attacks.

In a brief statement from Netanyahu’s office, Hanegbi thanks the Egyptians for their “vigorous efforts” to negotiate an end to the fighting, and adds: “Quiet will be met with quiet, and if Israel is attacked or threatened, it will continue to do whatever it must in order to defend itself.”
