Opposition leaders appeal to lawmakers to support Knesset dissolution

In a joint statement, the leaders of the Knesset’s Zionist opposition parties call on all lawmakers to vote to dissolve the Knesset on Wednesday, adding that they have removed all opposition legislation from today’s plenum agenda.

“The 25th Knesset has ended its historic term. In the absence of a majority for the crumbling coalition, the opposition factions are withdrawing all of their bills from the Knesset plenum, thereby closing the session,” the statement reads.

“Instead of continuing to support the dysfunctional Knesset, we call on everyone to support the Knesset dissolution proposal that will be presented this coming Wednesday and to go to the polls as soon as possible.”

The coalition has also removed all of its bills from today’s agenda, ahead of Wednesday’s expected preliminary vote on a bill to dissolve the Knesset.

Without any legislation, the agenda only includes three separate pro-forma motions for a vote of no-confidence in the government, and a government announcement that the Israel National Digital Directorate will be transferred from the authority of the Economy Ministry to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The exact timeline for passing the Knesset dissolution bill remains unclear, though it is likely that it will be pushed through the Knesset quickly. After passing its preliminary reading, the bill will need to go to committee and then pass three readings in the plenum.
