PA welcomes US-led statement asserting that Trump’s Gaza plan offers pathway to Palestinian statehood

The Palestinian Authority welcomes the joint statement led by the US, which said that President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for ending the Gaza war offers a pathway to Palestinian statehood.

The joint statement was signed on to by the US, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan and Turkey, and expressed support for the Washington-sponsored UN Security Council resolution establishing an International Stabilization Force in Gaza.

The joint statement notably stressed the plan’s creation of a pathway to Palestinian statehood as the US seeks to push back on efforts by Russia and China to block the resolution, arguing that it doesn’t go far enough on that issue.

“The State of Palestine welcomes the contents of this (joint) statement, which affirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, the establishment of their independent Palestinian state and the pursuit of peace, security and stability between Palestinians and Israelis, and stresses that this should be in accordance with international law,” the PA statement reads.

“The State of Palestine reaffirms its readiness to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, within the framework of unity of the land, people and institutions, which considers the Strip an integral part of the State of Palestine,” it adds.
