Palestinian technocratic committee reportedly to hold first meet Thursday in Cairo

Members of the independent Palestinian technocratic committee to which Hamas is supposed to cede power in Gaza will reportedly hold a first meeting tomorrow at the US embassy in Cairo.

Egypt announced earlier today that a consensus had been reached on the makeup of the 15-person committee.

Well-informed Palestinian sources cited by Saudi-owned UK newspaper Asharq al-Awsat say the technocrats will meet with Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov, who has been tapped to serve as secretary-general of the Board of Peace that will oversee the Palestinian committee under US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Committee members who are not already in Cairo are expected to arrive in the Egyptian capital today, and arrangements have been made for the remote participation of Gaza-based members in the event that they are not permitted to leave the Strip for Egypt, the sources say.
