Police arrest suspect in grenade attack on sushi restaurant amid escalating turf war

An 18-year-old man from Bat Yam has been arrested on suspicion of throwing a grenade at a Japanika sushi chain restaurant in Kiryat Ono in the early hours of Monday morning, Israel Police says, amid an escalating conflict between the Jarushi and Musli crime families.

He is due to appear before the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court today for a hearing on extending his detention.

There have been around 15 grenade and shooting attacks over the past week, many of them targeting Japanika, with one person lightly injured on Monday in south Tel Aviv in one of the explosions.

The restaurant chain is owned by Barak Abramov, who also owns the Beitar Jerusalem soccer team.

According to Walla, Abramov was initially seen as being close to the Musli family but is now thought to be tied to the Jarushi family.
