A police officer was lightly injured after a Palestinian driving a car refused to halt at a checkpoint near the West Bank settlement of Ariel.

According to police, officers ordered the car to stop at the checkpoint at the Gitai-Avishar Junction. The Palestinian driver initially stopped but accelerated after an officer approached the vehicle.

The officer is taken to a hospital with minor injuries after the car ran over his foot, police say.

Police say forces are searching the area for the car and that the circumstances of the incident are under investigation, without elaborating on what the Palestinian man was suspected of.
