After nuke deal already signed, Trump insists it’s conditioned on Saudi Arabia joining Abraham Accords

A day after the United States and Saudi Arabia signed a nuclear cooperation agreement, US President Donald Trump says that the deal is “totally subject” to Riyadh normalizing ties with Israel.

Writing on Truth Social, he stresses that “there will be no enrichment of material,” indicating that no enrichment of uranium will take place on Saudi soil.

“The Civil Nuclear Deal… being made between the United States Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia, which pertains only to non-military use such as the ones that Iran and UAE (and others) already have, will be approved, but is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords,” Trump says.

Former US president Joe Biden’s administration had conditioned nuclear cooperation with Saudi Arabia on the kingdom recognizing Israel, but reports on the deal had suggested that Trump had dropped the condition, along with requirements for strict safeguards on enrichment.

The US Energy Department’s announcement of the deal on Wednesday also made no mention of the Abraham Accords, in an indication that it is not part of the documents signed by both sides.

Trump’s post comes after pro-Israel advocates had expressed alarm over his administration’s decision to proceed with the civilian nuclear deal without conditioning it on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords
