US President-elect Donald Trump says Washington should not get involved in the resumption of Syria’s civil war, in a post on his Truth Social social media site.
Trump says that the opposition has been able to make their recent advances because Russia is “so tied up in Ukraine” and is “incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years.”
Trump criticizes his predecessor Barack Obama for backing away from “red lines” he set for Assad during the conflict and allowing Russia to intervene.
“There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid,” Trump writes, adding, in all capitals, that “the United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it play out. Do not get involved!”
