Mahmoud Abbas’s brother dies in Qatar

Omar Abbas traveled regularly from Doha to Tel Aviv hospital to receive treatment for cancer

The brother of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas died Thursday in his home country of Qatar.

Abbas will fly to Doha for Friday’s funeral, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

Omar Abbas, also known as Abu Loway (76), had been undergoing treatment for cancer in Tel Aviv’s Assuta Medical Center.

He lived in Qatar with his wife, and would travel for regular treatment to the private Israeli hospital, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

He is survived by his wife.

Qatar does not recognize Israeli sovereignty and the two countries do not have a full diplomatic relations.
