Prominent actor and director Rami Heuberger dies at 61 after battle with cancer
Tel Aviv-born actor known for screen roles in ‘Schindler’s List’ and ‘Golda,’ stage performances including ‘Anna Karenina’ and ‘Macbeth,’ and a TV sketch playing Rabin’s assassin

Prominent Israeli actor and director Rami Heuberger died on Thursday at the age of 61, following a battle with cancer.
Heuberger acted in and directed dozens of plays, movies, and television programs throughout his nearly 40-year career.
Among his credits were the 1993 Oscar winner “Schindler’s List,” the 2023 biopic “Golda,” and the TV series “In Treatment.” In Israel, he is also well known for his roles in the 1990s sketch comedy show “Hahamishia Hakamerit” (also known as “The Chamber Quintet”) and the cult film “Operation Grandma.”
In a biting 1997 sketch with “Hahamishia Hakamerit,” Heuberger played Yigal Amir, who two years earlier assassinated prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, confidently and smilingly predicting from his prison cell: “Twenty years from now, I’ll get a pardon… You know it… And whenever I go out into the street, my whole neighborhood will stop… and [clap] rythmically… A year later there will be a municipal election and the mayor will come to have his picture taken with me. You know it.”
Born in Tel Aviv in 1963, Heuberger studied acting at Nissan Nativ Acting Studio in Tel Aviv before joining the Cameri Theater in 1989.
His theater credits from this period included Macbeth and Le Bourgeois gentilhomme.
In 2013, he told the Ynet news outlet that as a child, he would “walk past the Cameri Theater on my way to school and dream dreams.”
“But who thought I would become an actor or a man of culture? I didn’t grow up in that kind of environment.”
In 1990, Heuberger won first prize at the Theatronetto Festival for his one-man performance of Yitzhak Ben Ner’s novel, “Ta’atuon.”
He appeared in productions of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Anna Karenina,” and “Waiting for Godot” at the renowned Habima Theater.
He also appeared in the films “Actors” and “A Gift from Above” as well as the series “The Arbitrator,” “The Bourgeoisie,” “Prime Minister’s Children,” and more.
Heuberger was divorced. He is survived by four children and one grandchild.
