Singer, actor and television host Gidi Gov is expected to be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after allegedly causing a car accident Monday night on Tel Aviv’s Ayalon Highway that lightly injured five or six people.

According to Hebrew media, Gov was returning home from a private concert for Microsoft employees ahead of the Jewish new year when, at about 1 a.m., he lost control of his car and hit nine or so other vehicles.

Media reports variously reported five or six people lightly injured. Some were taken to the hospital while others were treated at the scene.

A blood alcohol test administered by police showed Gov’s alcohol levels were above those permitted, though only slightly, according to Channel 12.

The singer was detained for questioning and later released under restrictive conditions.

He was summoned to appear again before law enforcement on Tuesday. An indictment is expected to be filed against him on suspicion of driving under the influence, and his driver’s license is expected to be suspended for 60 days.

According to Kan news, Gov said at the end of his questioning Monday, “I was at a concert, and I drank a little whisky. I lost control of the car.”

A statement on behalf of the singer said that he’d “had a car accident in Tel Aviv. He is in good condition, he is recovering at home.”

An eyewitness to the incident told the Israel Hayom daily: “I was on my way home, every lane on the Ayalon was jammed because of roadworks.

“After it was opened up for us to drive, I suddenly saw a car starting to run into all the other vehicles there. He lost control; I don’t know what exactly happened.”

Then, he said, Gov “got out of the car. He didn’t look drunk, just very much in shock. He just stood there to the side and looked. I didn’t recognize him at the time of the accident; afterward they told me it was the singer.”

Channel 13’s Ofek Tzach quoted another witness as saying: “His car hit all of us — it wasn’t a chain collision. We got a strong impact, our car was in the air.”

Gov, long a prominent musician, actor and TV personality, is known as a founding member of the band Kaveret, as an actor on the long-running skit show “Zehu Zeh,” and for his extensive solo music career.
