Norberto Louis Har was rescued from captivity in Rafah in a daring military operation on February 12, 2024. This is the story of his capture:
Norberto Louis Har, 70, was taken hostage from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak to Gaza by Hamas terrorists on October 7, along with Louis’s partner, Clara Marman, 62, Clara’s brother Fernando Marman, 60, sister Gabriela Leimberg, 59 and Gabriela’s daughter, Mia Leimberg, 17.
Gabriela and Mia Leimberg, and Clara Marman, were released on November 28 as part of a temporary ceasefire deal brokered by Qatar and the United States between Hamas and Israel.
Clara’s partner, Norberto Louis Har remained in Gaza.
Clara, now back in Israel, has said that all five were kept together, and at one point, they were moved in a small car to Rafiah, “actually, very close to Nir Yitzhak,” she said. When she, Gabriela and Mia were released, they were sure that Louis and Fernando would be released next.
“We can’t abandon them,” said Clara.
The extended family of five were hiding in their sealed room that morning, trying to keep the heavy door jammed shut with a chair. When the terrorists arrived and shouted at them to leave the room, they were sure they were about to be killed.
Louis Har has four children, 10 grandchildren and is a lover of theater.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
