American billionaire Sheldon Adelson and his wife Miriam arrived in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mishkenot Sha’ananim Sunday evening, shortly before Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gave a speech pertaining to US foreign policy toward Israel and Iran.

Adelson and his wife have given tens of millions of dollars this year to political committees supporting Republicans in general and Romney in particular.

Adelson has pledged to spend more than $100 million to defeat President Barack Obama. He is expected to attend a Jerusalem fundraiser for Romney on Monday, where donors were asked to contribute $50,000 or to raise $100,000. Romney advisers say the event is expected to raise more than $1 million.

Both Jews, Adelson and his wife recently pledged $13 million to Birthright Israel in recognition of its bar mitzvah (13th) year.
