Yakov Toumarkin became only the second Israeli swimmer to reach the Olympic finals, while gymnast Alex Shatilov placed 12th in the men’s all around, on a good day for Israel at the London Olympics.
On Thursday Israel’s most decorated judoka, Arik Zeevi, will try to reach the podium for the second time in his career.
The duo of Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich beat Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland, and advanced to the quarter finals.
Toumarkin set a new Israeli record in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 1:57:33.
Gal Nevo advanced to the semifinals in the 200 meter personal medley, but didn’t make it to the finals.
Israel’s windsurfers ended their second day of competition. After four races Lee Korzits sat in a terrific second place; Shahar Tzuberi was 10th in the men’s rankings.
Nofar Edelman finished third in her sixth race in the Lasor Radial sailboat, which pushed her up to 29th place in the overall standings.

Zeevi is the last of the country’s judokas to compete in London. The 35-year-old, a four-time European champion and bronze medalist in Athens ’04, aims to end his profesional career with a second Olympic medal.
Remember: Event times are listed as they appear in London — please make the right adjustments (Israelis add 2 hours; US East Coast residents subtract 5).
